our focus on maintaining a diverse geographical
footprint, strengthening our integrated supply
chain, promoting flexibility and balance in
diverse market segments, retaining our reliable
logistics services, growing our customer base
and supporting our sustainability efforts. Each division is responsible for developing its own sustainability strategy and framework in line with the overall group strategy while considering stakeholder needs and social and environmental obligations. South Africa’s transformational needs to drive the focus of the group’s financial contribution towards social change, while environmental initiatives are largely influenced by global trends. |

Steinhoff Extended Family |
||||||||||||||||||||
| Since 2003 Steinhoff International has been the main sponsor of a residential care programme in Soweto, where we now take care of 200 children, with another 100 being included from April 2012, who have, in one way or another been affected by HIV/Aids. Many of them are part of child headed households that lost their parents due to Aids. Through our partnership with Abraham Kriel Child Care our on-going contribution continues to provide these children with food, school fees, clothes, social services and where necessary ARV treatment. The aim of our programme is to make a difference, not only in the children’s day-to-day lives, but to support their development to being educated, responsible and productive young adults. Many of ‘our children’ have now reached school leaving age and we have identified a growing need to assist them with their futures after they matriculate. Abraham Kriel has initiated a skills centre to continue with their personal development. Steinhoff’s corporate social investment focus therefore remains with our Extended Family programme. Our aim for the future is to include more children in the programme and to assist with further after school development for them to enter the job market or become young entrepreneurs within their communities. Mr Bruno Steinhoff, founder of Steinhoff and patron to the programme, has been involved from the start and we continue to receive support from him, his family and various international associates and friends for which we are thankful. |

Sponsorship |

| In South Africa, Steinhoff is one of the main sponsors of Varsity Rugby which includes the annual inter-university rugby competition between South African universities. In addition Steinhoff sponsors university cricket, hockey and soccer (football), for both men and women - which have growing youth development programmes. The group believes in investing in potential leaders through its contribution to sport at universities, promoting and encouraging individual and team passion, commitment and loyalty - values inherent in the Steinhoff organisation. Our involvement provides a platform for corporate brand awareness and the opportunity to link companies that are part of, and that add value to the Steinhoff group in Africa. Our sponsorships, each year, reach and influence the lives of more than 5 000 rugby players, 1 500 hockey players, 900 soccer players and 300 cricketers, providing them with clothing, sports equipment and travel that enhance their specific codes. These contributions have a significantly positive influence on the student players, administrators and tertiary academic institutions involved and we are encouraged by the reciprocal support received. |
