In initiating the employer of choice programme, our objective was to increase the quality of employee engagement and commitment to the group to underpin performance and retain talented people. 

By distilling a 50 000-strong workforce down into 50 000 individuals with unique needs and dreams, we believe we can harness individual efforts into effective teams, and effective teams into a winning global corporation in which everyone benefits. 

Our employer of choice programme – Making a world of difference – is wide ranging, moving from attracting talented new employees to retaining existing employees to recruiting our workforce of the future from tertiary institutions around the world.

To attract new employees, a focused media campaign highlights the opportunities to make a difference through innovation, challenge, personal fulfilment and reward.

For our existing employees, the focus is on showcasing the potential of working for a global group committed to responsible citizenship, personal development and maximising individual potential. 

In South Africa the initial focus of the employer of choice programme on campuses is raising awareness of career opportunities in the Steinhoff group. This is done in a number of ways, from group presentations and career days to supporting sports programmes and related infrastructure.
