| Managing a workforce of over 50 000 people is a sizeable challenge. Doing so on three continents with differing regulations, legislation and priorities is a bigger challenge. However, ensuring we attract and retain people of the required calibre to achieve our goals and provide fulfilling careers is our primary goal.

The various initiatives under way through our employer of choice programme underscore our commitment to developing talent at all levels and in every operation. We support employee development by providing workplace and home-based learning opportunities and tailored management development programmes. We concentrate on developing a representative demographic profile in every region, particularly in South Africa where employment equity is part of the national socio-economic development agenda. In the southern African region, we have made good progress with
black people accounting for over 90% of the 32 000 employees.
